What Fine Motor Skills and Learning with Rainbow Loom?
Friends~ Are you looming? Are your kid looming? Are your students looming? Well, if not, they will be!
Rainbow Loom has been a HOT ticket in my house and at school.
My own Ian spends time weaving beautiful colored rubber bands in and out on his loom for hours. His focus is amazing!
The end result are super fun bracelets.
This is just a small sample of his collection. He even makes them extra long to hold his name tag at school and to wear as necklaces. It is quite a craze!
Check out these wild Rainbow Loom shoes!
Please ignore those dirty toes and legs...he was playing outside all day!
Along with this craze, we have had some struggles with the Rainbow Loom obsession. Ian becomes so focused on his weaving that I have to pull him away at dinner time or for homework.
At school, teachers have been having issues with students playing with the rubber bands, trading, stealing, and arguing about these stretchy things. Many teachers have put a ban on bracelets in the classroom.
Do you want to know why I have not?
Rainbow Looms are not video games!
They teach mathematical and fine motor skills.
They teach mathematical and fine motor skills.
Children are being creative and problem solving while making their unique designs.
Children are shooting their own how to videos with diagrams!
Hello...speaking and listening skills in play!
Children are selling pre made bracelets at craft shows-starting their own little business.
I had a sweet student make a bracelet for another student in our building with special needs.
I did put a ban on Silly bands but I will not put a ban on Rainbow Loom.
I will teach my students how to manage this fantastic fad while they learn in the classroom.
Will you ban the Rainbow Loom?
