Getting CLOSE with Math Problem Solving   and a Freebie!

Friends~Room 331 has been working on solving one and two step word problems.  Let me tell you, it has not been easy.  I don't know what happens when you mix words and numbers but it sure has my kiddos spinning in circles.  
After teaching a lesson last week, I went home thinking about what I could do to make this lesson better for my kiddos.  How could I help them problem solve with confidence and then it hit me.  We had just done a CLOSE reading using my Getting Close with a Book bookmarks and my 2nd graders did great! The bookmarks really helped them stay on track and focused with their passage.

 I decided that since they did so well with the close reading we were going to get CLOSE with word problems too! 

Check out me kiddos in action.  The did a great job sorting out one stepper and 2 stepper problems.

Underlining questions and coming up with solutions.  

I made those Getting CLOSE with Problem Solving bookmarks for them so that they could stay on track.

I even made this little tutorial for them to watch and review on our classroom computers and ipads.
