I Can with Common Core Review, Freebie and Give Away!

Friends~I am so excited to share something new I found!  I have been working really hard this year to help my students understand what the Common Core is all about.  I want them to know the reason behind the new standards and why they are posted in my classroom.

Check out this poster that I used at the beginning of the year to explain the Common Core to my students.

The picture above is part of my focus board.  It is not as pretty as I want it but it is super functional because everything is magnetic and I can also write on the board with dry erase.  I change it each week based on what I am teaching and what we struggled with last week.

I post each standard with the subject and underneath I post I Can standards that are done in child friendly terms.

Well,  last week Carson Dellosa contacted me about reviewing one of their new products for The Common Core and I said heck ya!
I was so excited to check out their

Look just at the adorable package I found on my front porch last Friday!

The cards come in a sturdy box with dividers for each standard for Math and ELA.  Each card has the standard in words and the number on one side. The other side has an I CAN standard written in child friendly terms. (Easy to read font for kids!) The dividers are labeled with the Acronym for the standard and a short blurb.  The dividers even have a quick guide on the front giving a sample of what was included in each standard.
Watch the video below to take a quick tour.

I love how I can keep them organized in the box!
Each card and divider are laminated for durability.

Once I got it into my classroom I knew just what I was going to do with it!  The pocket chart was a perfect fit for my Daily 5 Center so I posted the standards that we were working on in the pocket chart.

I also have been wanting to place I Can standards in my math center.  I had a small pocket chart already there holding their center cards and numbers so I knew the cards would fit perfectly!

I even pulled one out for each of my reading groups and we reviewed what standard we were working on and used highlighting tape to mark important words in the standard.

I am really impressed with the durability and clarity of the standard cards in this kit. Be sure to head over and check them out!
They are offered for grades K-5!
Here is the BEST part!  Carson Dellosa is offering one of these fantastic "The Complete Common Core State Standards Kits" to one of my followers! (YOU PICK THE GRADE LEVEL!)

  5. I post I can statements for my class each day. This tool would make my life so much easier. Just pull the card to post and review with students. We use these I can statements as a type of exit ticket at the end of each lesson.
Students self evaluate their understanding using red, yellow, green cards.

  20. I follow your blog! I think these are a great idea. We're getting on board with common core and it would be so nice to have everything so well organized and ready to use. I would use the pocket chart to post the standards and then post samples of student work by them.
    Thanks!

  24. I'd use the cards with our daily schedule to highlight the "I Can" so that students know the objectives for the day. This is also helpful for anyone coming into our room (visitors, administration, another teacher) to know what we are doing without having to ask.
